A suspect was fatally shot by a City of Justin Police officer Sunday evening after leading police on a brief pursuit.
At approximately 7:39 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. When the officer attempted to initiate a stop, the driver evaded, pulling into a driveway in the 100 block of Daisey Lane. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and fled into the backyard while armed with a firearm.
Upon exiting the backyard, the suspect was confronted by an officer who gave multiple commands to drop the weapon. According to police, the suspect refused to comply and instead raised the firearm in a threatening manner, leading the officer to discharge their duty weapon.
Officers immediately provided life-saving measures to the suspect. However, the suspect was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Medical City Denton.
The Justin Police Department stated that the suspect was acting alone and there was no other threat to the public. In line with standard protocol for officer-involved shootings, the officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, and the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the incident. The identity of the deceased suspect has not been released at this time.
