Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is preparing for a surge in summer travel, with approximately 1.8 million passengers expected to pass through its terminals during the Independence Day holiday travel period from Wednesday, July 2 through Tuesday, July 8.

The busiest travel days are projected to be Wednesday, July 2; Sunday, July 6; and Monday, July 7. July 7 is expected to be the peak day, with over 285,000 travelers anticipated at the airport.

With ongoing construction affecting roadways and terminal areas, DFW Airport recommends travelers arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international departures. Travelers are also encouraged to use drivetime and traffic apps to account for delays and plan accordingly.

Additional offerings, tools and services are available to support travelers along every step of their travel journey.

  • Prebook parking: Save crucial decision-making time and get offered the best rates when booking in advance with prebook parking online. While terminal parking options are expected to fill up quickly, Express and Remote parking lots are also available with quick and convenient shuttle service to every terminal.
  • Avoid congested airport roads with public transit: DART’s Orange Line provides direct access to Terminal A, while Trinity Metro’s TEXRail connects riders to Terminal B. Additionally, Trinity Railway Express (TRE) offers service from Dallas and Fort Worth to CentrePort/DFW Airport Station, with terminal access via the TRE Link shuttle. For details on transit schedules and fares, visit DARTTrinity Metro or TRE.
  • Download the DFW Airport mobile app: Make informed decisions every step of the way based on live parking availabilitysecurity wait timesconstruction updates and more. Plus, travelers can opt-in to push notifications for real-time alerts and create a MyDFW account to customize preferences. The app is available for iOS and Android.

Construction Update: Active Work Zones at Terminal C and Along International Parkway

A historic plan to expand and overhaul critical infrastructure at DFW is underway with extensive construction activity taking place along International Parkway and throughout Terminal C. Customers are encouraged to arrive early to navigate potential congestion through construction areas. Due to construction, Terminal C has reduced parking availability with updates to check-in and security. Travelers can view all construction updates at dfwairport.com/construction.

Terminal D Bustle: Peak Security Wait Times for International Travel

The busiest times for check-in and security checkpoints at Terminal D are in the early morning from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and in the early evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. International travelers are encouraged to arrive at least three hours before departure to navigate departing crowds for international flights.

Curbside Protocol: One-Hour Parking and Curbside Rules Keep Traffic Flowing

Curbside areas are designated for active passenger drop off and pick up only. Vehicles stopping in traffic lanes or waiting on the terminal curb until their party is ready will prohibit the flow of heavy traffic levels. Convenient one-hour parking options in terminal garages, as well as cell phone lots at the north and south end of the airport, allow vehicles to wait until passengers are ready for curbside pickup without impeding traffic. Dedicated airport staff will be at the curbs to help move traffic along during the busiest times.
