On Thursday, November 13th, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Plano Police officers responded to a violent assault that occurred in the 2300 block of Shiloh Road. According to the police report, a female victim was jogging in Bob Woodruff Park when she was unexpectedly attacked by an unknown male. The suspect struck the victim with a hammer, causing significant injuries, before fleeing the scene on foot.
Responding officers found the victim injured and bleeding. She was immediately transported by Plano Fire-Rescue to a local hospital non-life-threatening injuries, where she received medical attention. The good news is that her physical injuries were deemed non-life threatening. While the physical injuries are not expected to be fatal, the emotional and psychological impact of the attack will likely be difficult for the victim to process and recover from. Officers on the scene quickly began an investigation to identify the suspect based on the victim's statement, canvassed the area and reviewed surveillance footage from nearby areas.
Through the investigation, Plano detectives were able to identify the suspect as 17-year-old Sergio Noe De Nova Duarte, a resident of Plano. Law enforcement officers located Duarte the following day, Friday, November 14th, and took him into custody without further incident.
Duarte has been charged with Aggravated Kidnapping Bodily Injury, a first-degree felony. He is currently being held at the Collin County Detention Facility pending further legal proceedings.
The CAPers Unit continues to investigate the incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and the seriousness of the charges, additional details about the circumstances surrounding the attack and the motive behind it are being withheld at this time.
Plano Police urge anyone with information about this case to come forward and assist investigators in ensuring the safety of the community and preventing further incidents in the area.
