Irving ISD has been named a CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) for the second year in a row. The honor highlights the district’s continued work to strengthen career and technical education and prepare students for life after graduation.
Superintendent Magda A. Hernández said the recognition reflects the district’s focus on giving students the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed in today’s workforce. She credited teachers and community partners for helping build strong career pathways.
The award recognizes districts that show leadership in developing innovative CTE programs, partnering with industry, and offering real-world learning that leads to meaningful careers.
Irving ISD Director of Career and Technical Education Zach Moore noted the significance of earning the distinction in both inaugural years of the award and said the district hopes to continue the momentum.
Across its five high schools, Irving ISD offers 34 career pathways, giving students opportunities in fields such as aviation, culinary arts, and law and public service. The district has also earned three national Excellence in Action awards from Advanced CTE for standout programs at Singley Academy and Irving High School.
Moore said the district’s goal is to give students a competitive edge after graduation, whether they enter the workforce or continue their education. Each program works closely with an industry advisory board to keep coursework aligned with current job demands.
He added that recognitions like this help open doors for new partnerships, which lead to more opportunities for students.
The district is also looking ahead to the opening of a new Career and Technical Education Center in August 2027. The facility will introduce additional programs in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical studies, all geared toward high-demand careers.
Irving ISD will be formally recognized at the CTAT Winter Leadership Conference, where districts from across Texas will be honored for their work in advancing career and technical education.
