Kat's Crummy Bakery in Irving Turns Homemade Bread Into Help for Animal Rescues

Irving resident Kathy Moore combines her love of baking and animals through a home based micro bakery that gives back to local rescues.

An Irving home baker is using her passion for sourdough to support animals in need. Kathy Moore, known to her customers as Kat, is the owner of Kat’s Crummy Bakery, a small micro bakery that donates proceeds from homemade breads and baked treats to animal rescue efforts.
Moore started the bakery as a way to combine two things she cares deeply about. Baking has long been a passion, and her love for animals inspired her to turn that passion into something that could make a difference in the community.

“I love to bake, and I also have a big heart for animals,” Moore said. “So I decided to combine the two.”

Kat’s Crummy Bakery operates as a home based business, allowing Moore to donate her time so that more money can go directly toward helping rescues. She credits her husband for supporting her efforts behind the scenes, including helping with cleanup after long baking days.'

Sourdough bread is the bakery’s most popular item, followed closely by banana bread. Cinnamon rolls are another favorite and happen to be Moore’s personal top pick.

Moore said serving the Irving community has been a positive and rewarding experience. Customers have been receptive to purchasing from a home bakery, especially one connected to a cause they care about.

“Most of my customers also love animals,” Moore said. “It’s a great way to get something nice and also do something good for the rescues.”

The bakery has grown primarily through social media and word of mouth. Moore has also participated in local events, including a craft fair at the Heritage Senior Center, which she described as fun but demanding.

While many small business owners aim to open a storefront, Moore said she has no plans to do so. She believes keeping the bakery homemade preserves its meaning and connection to animal rescue.

“I think it would commercialize it,” she said. “I love the thought of homemade. It keeps things real.”

Bread remains Moore’s favorite thing to bake, something she describes as both grounding and meaningful.

“There’s something soul soothing about making bread,” Moore said. “Creating a loaf and knowing it helps my family, my community, and animals in need means everything to me.”

Those interested in ordering or learning about upcoming bake drops can follow Kat’s Crummy Bakery on Facebook, where Moore shares updates and availability.

Looking ahead, Moore hopes to continue receiving orders so she can keep supporting the rescues that rely on donations like hers. For her, each loaf baked represents a small but meaningful way to give back.
