Dallas Police Chief Comeaux released a statement addressing the city’s traffic congestion during New Year’s Eve celebrations. The Chief emphasized that public safety remains the department’s top priority and detailed firsthand observations from officers embedded throughout the city.
While many residents and visitors celebrated responsibly, the high volume of vehicles created challenges for emergency response, particularly in areas where quick access is critical. Despite overall call volume being lower than last year—a sign of effective policing and public cooperation—the congestion highlighted areas for improvement.
Chief Comeaux stressed that the experience offered valuable insights for future planning, coordination, and communication. The Dallas Police Department plans to collaborate with city leadership, local businesses, property owners, event organizers, transportation partners, and regional law enforcement to develop strategies to reduce congestion and ensure clear access for first responders during large-scale events.
“Our goal is simple,” the Chief said. “To ensure residents and visitors can enjoy celebrations safely while preserving clear access for our first responders.”
The department’s approach aims to balance safe public enjoyment with effective emergency response, ensuring future events in Dallas are both memorable and secure.
