FRISCO, Texas - The Dallas PULSE captured the first win in franchise history Thursday night, rallying from an opening-set loss to defeat the San Diego Mojo 3–1 at Comerica Center in Frisco in the club’s inaugural Major League Volleyball season.
After dropping the first set 25–15, Dallas responded with authority, taking the next three sets 25–16, 25–16, and 25–18 to secure the milestone victory in front of a home crowd.
Outside hitter Sofia Maldonado Diaz led the PULSE with a double-double, posting 12 kills and 10 digs while hitting .276. Fellow outside hitter Mimi Colyer also finished with 12 kills. At the net, middle blockers Layne Van Buskirk and Trisitin Savage provided a strong presence, combining for 19 kills and seven blocks. Savage earned Dallas PULSE Player of the Game honors with 10 kills and three blocks.
“Tonight was amazing. It’s our very first win for this franchise, for Dallas, and it’s the best we’ve played as a team,” said head coach Shannon Winzer. “When we’re not getting the blocks, we’re getting the digs, and having that many players running speed off a dig is huge.”
San Diego jumped out early, opening the match with a 4–0 run and taking the first set behind four kills from outside hitter Grace Loberg, who finished with 12 kills. Former SMU standout Maya Tabron added nine kills and 11 digs for the Mojo.
Dallas found its rhythm in the second set, out-blocking San Diego 6–2 and evening the match. The PULSE carried that momentum through the third and fourth sets, holding the Mojo to a .143 hitting percentage in the third and closing the match with four more blocks in the fourth.
“I think we came out a bit flat,” Van Buskirk said. “We reminded ourselves that we’re at our best when we’re having fun, and that really showed in the second set.”
Dallas will now head out for its first road test, traveling to Georgia to face the Atlanta Vibe on Jan. 22. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will stream on Victory+.
Dallas PULSE will return home on Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. CT to host the Omaha Supernovas at Comerica Center. Season and single-game tickets are available at dallaspulsevb.com.
