FORT WORTH, Texas — A fiery crash involving a gasoline tanker and another vehicle early Sunday morning led to a large-scale hazardous materials response near the Fort Worth–Euless-DFW Airport border.
Just after 1:00 a.m. on April 5th, the Fort Worth Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a two-vehicle crash at 13900 Trinity Boulevard near Post Oak Boulevard. Responding crews arrived to find downed power lines and an 18-wheeler carrying gasoline fully involved in fire.
According to officials, the tanker driver was attempting to deploy specialized equipment to prevent fuel from spreading into a nearby gas station parking lot. However, gasoline at the scene ignited due to the presence of live electrical lines.
The driver suffered critical burn injuries and was transported to a burn unit for treatment.
Due to the severity of the fire and hazardous conditions, the incident was quickly upgraded, ultimately reaching a Level 2 HAZMAT response. Additional resources were called in, including environmental teams from the City of Fort Worth, an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) unit from DFW Airport to provide foam, and sand trucks to help contain runoff from firefighting efforts.
Fire crews worked for several hours to control the blaze, continuously cooling the tanker as it burned. Officials estimate the truck was carrying approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline at the time of the incident.
The fire was extinguished, and cleanup operations were underway by the time crews cleared the scene around 7:00 a.m.
No other civilians or first responders were reported injured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
