FORT WORTH, Texas — A Monday morning house fire in Fort Worth’s Rosemont area was made more dangerous by severe hoarding conditions inside the home, officials said.
Just after sunrise on April 6, the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to multiple calls reporting a fire in the 4200 block of Frazier Avenue. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence.
Firefighters quickly began an aggressive interior attack while search teams attempted to enter the home to check for occupants. However, crews were met with significant hoarding conditions inside, which made access difficult and increased the intensity of the fire due to the large amount of stored materials.
As firefighters adjusted their strategy, they attempted to enter through the back of the home, but the rear porch collapsed during their approach, blocking access.
Despite the challenges, the fire was brought under control in approximately 35 minutes. Additional crews were requested to assist with overhaul operations to ensure all remaining hot spots were fully extinguished.
The resident was able to safely escape the home with two of his three dogs. The third dog was later located in the backyard. Medics evaluated and treated both the resident and the animals at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is assisting three displaced adults with emergency support.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
