EVERMAN, Texas — A hazardous materials incident at a residence Thursday evening left multiple people injured, including a young child who was airlifted to a hospital, according to the Everman Fire Department.
Crews responded around 6 p.m. May 7 to the 5100 block of Wilson Road after reports of injuries and possible chemical exposure. When firefighters arrived, they found two patients outside the home who reported another victim still inside.
Firefighters entered the residence, removed the third patient and began providing advanced life support. Additional units from Tarrant County Emergency Services District No. 1 and the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
Officials said the youngest patient, a 1-year-old child, was flown by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital with serious injuries and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
Two other patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
During the response, one firefighter was also exposed to the unknown substance and was transported to JPS Fort Worth. Authorities said the firefighter was treated for inhalation and contact exposure and was later released, with a full recovery expected.
Hazardous materials crews remained on scene until around midnight, where they located a small spill of an unknown liquid chemical inside the residence. Samples were collected and sent for testing to determine the substance.
Officials said the chemical was contained within the home and there was no threat to the surrounding neighborhood.
The investigation remains ongoing.
