DALLAS, Texas — A Dallas County jury convicted a 21-year-old man of capital murder in the 2023 shooting death of a father of 10 during an attempted robbery at a northwest Dallas apartment complex.
Denari Lamont K'Ywaun Moore was found guilty by a jury on May 8, 2026, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to prosecutors, the case stemmed from the April 14, 2023, killing of 37-year-old Adrian Gilberto Elvir-Yanez.
Investigators said Moore and two associates spent the day driving throughout Dallas attempting to carry out what prosecutors described as “jugging”-style aggravated robberies by targeting potential victims.
Authorities said the group initially surveilled several check-cashing businesses but did not identify a target before later driving through apartment complexes searching for victims.
According to evidence presented at trial, Moore and one associate approached Elvir-Yanez and two friends in the parking lot of the victim’s apartment complex in an attempted robbery.
Prosecutors said Elvir-Yanez noticed the men approaching and attempted to retrieve his own firearm. Moore then immediately opened fire, killing Elvir-Yanez and wounding another person at the scene.
During trial, prosecutors also introduced evidence connected to a separate aggravated robbery on March 10, 2023, in which Moore allegedly shot another victim during the commission of that offense.
The case was investigated by the Dallas Police Department.
The prosecution team included lead prosecutor Jonathan Grant and second-chair prosecutor Erik Lisowski.
