Irving Police Arrest Mother and Son After Violent Gun-Related Assault During Child Pickup

Ofelia Desantiago-Gallegos and Pablo Guerrero

IRVING, Texas — An Irving man accused of pistol-whipping another man during a violent confrontation over a child pickup and vehicle dispute has been arrested alongside his mother, who investigators say joined the assault by striking the victim with a rock.

According to the Irving Police Department, officers met with the victim on May 4, 2026, at the South Criminal Justice Center after he reported an aggravated assault that had occurred shortly before at a residence in the 100 block of W. 11th Street.

The victim told officers he had gone to the residence to pick up his son, who was staying there with the child’s mother, and retrieve a vehicle he had previously loaned to her.

While waiting for his son to gather his belongings, the victim said 33-year-old Pablo Jesus Guerrero came outside and confronted him about a prior incident involving his vehicle being towed from a location where Guerrero had parked it.

Investigators said the argument escalated into a physical confrontation after Guerrero swung at the victim and missed. The victim then wrestled Guerrero to the ground in an effort to control the situation before disengaging from the fight.

Police said that once the victim got off Guerrero, Guerrero pulled out a handgun and struck the victim in the head multiple times with the weapon.

According to investigators, the victim attempted to disarm Guerrero during the struggle, but was unable to do so.  Once the victim got off of Guerrero, Guerrero stood up and pointed the firearm directly at him and attempted to fire. Fortunately, the gun failed to discharge.

The two men continued wrestling over the weapon until Guerrero’s mother, 58-year-old Ofelia Desantiago-Gallegos, came outside the residence.

Police allege Desantiago-Gallegos was holding a rock and struck the victim in the face while demanding possession of the firearm.

Investigators said the victim was eventually able to gain control of the weapon after Guerrero ejected the magazine. The victim then handed the firearm to Desantiago-Gallegos before leaving the residence with his child and driving directly to the Criminal Justice Center to contact police.

Officers documented significant injuries and blood consistent with the victim’s statements, including injuries to areas where he said he had been struck with both the handgun and the rock.

Detectives re-interviewed the victim on May 5, and police said his statement remained consistent with his original account. Investigators said the victim expressed concern that both he and his child remained in danger following the incident and said he wanted to press charges.

Authorities noted the suspects were known to the victim through family ties connected to the child’s mother.  Police said Ofelia Desantiago-Gallegos is the mother of the child’s mother, while Pablo Guerrero is the child’s maternal uncle.

Arrest warrants were subsequently issued for both suspects.

Desantiago-Gallegos was arrested the morning of May 6 and booked into the Irving Jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  She was later transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where ICE charged her with being an illegal alien. They have since taken custody of her for deportation.

Guerrero was arrested the afternoon of May 7 and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after officers discovered paraphernalia during his arrest.

Further investigation revealed Guerrero was already out on bond in several other criminal cases, including a January 2026 arrest for methamphetamine possession and evading arrest with a vehicle after fleeing from an officer with the Grand Prairie Police Department.

Police also discovered Guerrero was wanted by the United States Marshals Service on a federal district court warrant alleging conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Dallas County court records show that Guerrero is a convicted felon previously convicted of drug trafficking in March 2019. He was initially sentenced to seven years of probation in that case, but his probation was later revoked following another possession arrest, resulting in a two-year prison sentence.
