Dallas Man Sentenced in Apartment Complex Mass Shooting That Wounded Children

Ezekiel Isaiah King

DALLAS, Texas - A Dallas County jury sentenced a 22-year-old man to 10 years in prison after convicting him in connection with a 2024 mass shooting that injured five people, including children.

According to prosecutors, Ezekiel Isaiah King was found guilty April 13, 2026, on a charge of aggravated assault stemming from the shooting investigation led by the Dallas Police Department.

Investigators said the shooting occurred Feb. 9, 2024, when King and three unidentified co-defendants allegedly drove to an apartment complex searching for rival gang members.

Authorities said the group spotted four people standing in a parking lot and mistakenly believed they were affiliated with a rival gang.

Prosecutors said King and two others exited the vehicle and fired 49 rounds into the group before fleeing the scene.

The victims were later identified as a 9-year-old boy, his 12-year-old brother, a 16-year-old boy, and a 26-year-old man. All four were struck by gunfire.

Investigators said a fifth victim was also injured after a bullet traveled through her bedroom window.

According to prosecutors, the 16-year-old victim spent several months in a wheelchair and continues relearning how to walk. Officials said the other victims recovered physically but continue to deal with emotional trauma from the shooting.

No witnesses were initially able to identify the shooters.

Authorities said investigators later connected King to the crime after two of the three firearms used in the shooting were discovered inside his vehicle during a traffic stop approximately three weeks later.

The Dallas Police Gang Unit conducted a lengthy investigation involving interviews, social media analysis, and examination of evidence recovered from King’s cellphone, according to prosecutors.

The case was prosecuted by Charles Warren and Alicia Patterson. Investigators assisting the prosecution included JD Williams, John Schingle, and Raul Obregon, with Regina Taylor serving as paralegal support. Detectives also credited Dallas Police Detective Justin Barger and the department’s Gang Unit for their work on the case.
