Habitual Offender Sentenced to 80 Years After Bringing Gun to Fort Worth Church and Shooting Man

Paul K. Davis

FORT WORTH, Texas — A habitual offender has been sentenced to 80 years in prison after a Tarrant County jury found him guilty of unlawfully possessing a firearm and heard evidence that he shot and permanently paralyzed a man during a disturbance at a Fort Worth church.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office announced that 59-year-old Paul K. Davis was convicted of Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon and subsequently sentenced to 80 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, the case stemmed from a July 2025 incident at a local church that was serving meals to people experiencing homelessness.

During a disturbance, Davis produced a firearm and shot another man, leaving the victim permanently paralyzed.

Because Davis had previous felony convictions, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

During the punishment phase of the trial, jurors learned Davis was a habitual offender with a history of violent crimes, including another shooting.

Fort Worth police investigated the incident and arrested Davis on July 21, 2025. He has remained in custody at the Tarrant County Corrections Center since his arrest.

Assistant District Attorneys Nicole O'Doherty and John Darby prosecuted the case on behalf of the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.
