Hutchins Police Corporal Honored After Rescuing Juvenile From Drowning

HUTCHINS, Texas — A Hutchins police corporal is being recognized for her heroic actions after rescuing a juvenile who was in danger of drowning at a FedEx facility last month.

According to the Hutchins Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:45 p.m. on June 23 after employees at the FedEx facility reported that two juvenile males, believed to be residents of a nearby youth facility, had jumped a perimeter fence and entered the property without permission.

When Corporal Desirre Woullard arrived, she located one of the juveniles on the opposite side of a body of water on the property.

Police said Woullard gave the juvenile clear verbal commands to remain where he was. Instead, the juvenile entered the water and eventually submerged.

Recognizing the immediate danger, Woullard quickly removed portions of her duty gear that could interfere with a rescue and entered the water without hesitation.

She successfully reached the juvenile and pulled him from the water, preventing what authorities said could have been a tragic drowning.

The Hutchins Police Department praised Woullard's actions, saying her courage, professionalism, and commitment to preserving life reflect the highest standards of law enforcement and make her deserving of the department's highest recognition and commendation.
