The Nimitz Academic Decathlon team continues to excel as they dominated the 5A division of the Oliver Wendell Holmes practice meet recently in San Antonio.
Nimitz students won 53 individual medals and ribbons, and easily outpaced second-place Corpus Christi King by 4500 points. Timothy Betts continues to lead the way for Nimitz as he has all season finishing as both the meet's top A student and the highest scoring student in a field of 31 teams.
Nimitz also received phenomenal performances from sophomore Rebecca Van Pamel, who was the top B student in the 5A division, and Blaine Stevens, who was the top C student in the meet. Strong performances by But Nguyen, who finished as the #2 B student, Michel Castillo, the #3 C student, and Matthew Jauregui, the #4 C student.
The team's next meet with be take place on the last weekend in January where Nimitz will attempt to win their 8th consecutive regional title and their 23rd in the last 26 years.
