About 250 high school and middle school students from Irving ISD will be in attendance tomorrow March 1, 2013 for the First Annual La Buena Vida Foundation Future Leaders High School Ethics Summit on the University of Dallas Campus in Irving. Its objective is to provide students with an effective process for making sound, ethical decisions. The Summit will emphasize the long term business and personal value of ethical conduct.
Presentation of the one-day Summit is a cooperative effort among the Irving ISD, the University of Arizona’s Center for Leadership Ethics, and La Buena Vida Foundation. The head of the Center for Leadership Ethics, Dr. Paul Melendez, will be presenting the Summit. The morning will start with a general overview of ethics as a subject matter, including a decision making model. Prior to lunch Paul will present two cases, one concerning Facebook, the other concerning the video game Grand Theft Auto. Then lunch break. That afternoon he will present a third case concerning underwater mortgages and the ethical issues of walking away leaving the mortgage unpaid. In connection with the third case the Foundation would have three or four professionals on a panel to assist Paul with the discussion.
