The Irving Healthcare Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff welcomes Monica Ellington as the new Executive Director at the Irving Interfaith Clinic. Ellington is the past executive director of the Irving Firefighters Foundation and is invested in the Irving community.
“Irving Interfaith Clinic is one of our five Irving-based healthcare beneficiaries,” explains IHF President John Drake. “We are excited to work side by side with Monica in the raising of funds to provide primary medical care for Irving’s neediest, uninsured residents,” he added.
“Our clinic are the face of compassion providing one-on-one care to our friends and neighbors through a range of medical, dental, pharmacy, and educational health services,” says Ellington. “Serving economically disadvantaged individuals including our working poor, uninsured, and under-served residents of Irving, we look towards the city that is to come and join with our partners, donors, and friends in building a healthy Irving one patient at a time. “We are so thankful for the $80,000 in support that comes from Baylor Health Care System each year in the form of dollars to pay the clinic’s support staff. Baylor also provides a doctor and a nurse practitioner at no cost to the clinic. These providers see patients during weekday hours, and then volunteer dentists and doctors come on weekends and evenings,” Drake noted
Ellington and the IHF staff still must jointly raise approximately $200,000 more each year, also to cover costs and to buy medical and dental supplies. “I love being able to show our donors we carefully use every gift dollar exactly as we promised. And I can promise from seeing each bill our foundation pays that not a dollar is wasted.”
Irving Interfaith Clinic (IIC) opened its doors in January 2006 as Irving's first free clinic for uninsured, needy patients. The facility is staffed today by four volunteer physicians from Irving. Also in 2008, the clinic added basic dental services and today two dentists and one hygienist volunteer their time to see patients.
