Irving Schools Foundation (ISF) will host its annual Perpetual Giving Tree Ceremony from 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 14 in the IISD Administration Building atrium.
The ceremony honors the 2009 Sustainer and 2009 Fellows announced during Breakfast with the Stars April 13, and during the 2008 Fall Education Luncheon. As part of the breakfast program, three ISF Fellows and one Sustainer were endowed. The Sustainer contribution of $5,000 was made by Christina Gears in honor of her husband, Irving Mayor Herbert A. Gears. ISF Fellows – a $1,000 contribution designated for the ISF general endowment fund – were named in honor of Charles Kirk, Peggy Masters, David Pfaff, Sharon Requinton Pfaff, and former IISD Superintendent Jack Singley. The Sustainer and Fellows will have their names engraved on the Perpetual Giving Tree, located in the atrium of the Administration Building.
The ceremony will also serve to recognize and dedicate four new scholarships that were presented at the 2009 Breakfast with the Stars. Scholarships are: Barbara Cardwell Future of Education Scholarship, Betty & Ben Carpenter Memorial Scholarship, Inelda Alaniz Scholarship, and Kenneth Yancey Memorial Scholarship.
The Irving Schools Foundation was established in May 1985 and founded by Anne Pfaff. The Foundation seeks to maximize educational opportunities for teachers and students by funding projects and activities that are not within the budgetary guidelines of the Irving Independent School District and for which tax dollars may not be expended.
