Irving ISD breaks ground on community garden

Thanks to a grant from Citi Foundation, students at Nimitz High School hosted a groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremony for a new community garden on Wednesday at the Nimitz High School greenhouse. The community garden is designed to create hands-on learning opportunities, grow healthy food options and contribute to the sustainability of the field of agriculture.

After the program during which district officials, Citi executives and community leaders spoke, Citi volunteers and top Nimitz FFA students planted shrubs around the perimeter of the garden. Construction is to begin in the fall, with a tentative completion date of October.
