The Irving School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously May 18 to re-dedicate The Academy of Irving ISD as the Jack E. Singley Academy.
The School Board also passed a resolution naming the press box at the Irving Schools Stadium as the Jack E. Singley Press Box at Irving Schools Stadium.
The Academy is a comprehensive high school that opened its doors during the 2001-2002 school year. This school accommodates 1700 students in grades nine to twelve.
The Academy re-dedication will be part of the Jack Singley Retirement Celebration scheduled for 3-5 p.m. May 31 at the Academy. Groundbreaking for construction of the Academy took place on March 5, 2000, and the school opened for the beginning of the 2001-2002 school year. The school currently accommodates approximately 1,500 students, however construction is underway to increase the capacity and academic facilities available.
In addition to re-naming the Academy, another of the recommendations presented by a committee appointed by the IISD Board of Trustees is to fund the Jack Singley Scholarship for four graduating seniors, one at each IISD high school. Currently the Singley Scholarship allows for only one scholarship per year. Individuals who want to personally honor Singley and his family are encouraged to contact the Irving Schools Foundation to make a donation to the Jack Singley Scholarship.
The Jack E. Singley Academy is located at 4601 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving. Due to construction at the Academy, parking is limited. Overflow parking with shuttle service to and from the celebration will be available at MacArthur High School.
