The soccer team comprised of students from Keyes Elementary School defeated a team from Los Angeles, California, to win the Futbolito Bimbo Stars indoor soccer national championship May 17.
To get to the championship game, the Keyes team defeated teams from Houston and Chicago May 16, but on the morning of May 17 lost to Los Angeles in the final preliminary game and was seeded second. The championship game in the afternoon of May 17 matched the first and second seeded teams – Los Angeles and Dallas, which was represented by the Keyes team. Keyes defeated Los Angeles 5-3 to win the national championship.
The Keyes soccer team now looks forward to the international championship tournament, playing against national champion teams from Mexico and Central America. The tournament is scheduled for July 3-4 at NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills.
