Approximately 40 students and staff at Farine Elementary School have volunteered to donate hair for the Locks of Love organization from 8-11 a.m. June 1 at Farine.
Ronda Huffstetler, IISD Board of Trustees member and owner of Ronda of the Plaza Salons will partner with stylists from Scott LeMaster Salon in cutting hair for Locks of Love, then restyling donors’ new haircuts. Guest speakers will include representatives from Keep Irving Beautiful, SPCA, Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Girl Scouts of America, Southwest Transplant Alliance, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Irving Cares.
The hair donation is part of Farine’s Service Matters day, an event to celebrate the school’s year-long theme, “What We Do Matters”. Farine students have spent the month of May conducting various activities related to making a difference in one’s community: fourth graders adopted the school’s courtyard to clean and make improvements and have been working with Irving Cares in collecting hygiene items to donate to people in need; third grade students are researching ecological issues and are collecting recyclable materials; second graders are creating a butterfly garden in the courtyard; and first grade students are creating activity books to give to children in the hospital. The final results of students’ projects will be revealed during the June 1 day-long event.
