MacArthur Drama Places 8th in State; Gains Valuable Experience

MacArthur High School theater department earned eighth place overall at State UIL One-Act Play Competition at University of Texas at Austin May 16.

Performing The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, the MacArthur troupe received the Texas Educational Theater Association Award of Outstanding Achievement in Conference 5A as well as a plaque for achieving state finalist status. Governor Rick Perry also recognized the IISD cast with Texas Governor Recognition Certificates, the only group to be recognized in such a fashion. In individual awards, Donald Bennett, playing the role of judge in the play, was named  Honorable Mention State All-Star Cast.

Stephen F. Austin High School from Austin was named state champion, Keller Central High School won second, and Edinburg High School won third. In looking to next year, MacArthur drama teacher Phillip Morgan said they plan to take advantage of the experience and lessons learned and apply them to next year’s one-act play preparation.
