Graduate Job Fair Draws Summer Job Seekers

In partnership with Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce and Irving Public Library, Irving ISD hosted a graduate summer job fair May 26 in the Fellowship Center of South MacArthur Church of Christ.

The event, now in its second year, was attended by 363 Irving ISD students and local citizens seeking summer employment. Fourteen companies exhibited at the fair including: Avon, Dallas County Community Supervision & Corrections, Dallas County, DeVry University, Express Employment Professionals, Irving ISD, IISD AVID Tutoring, Irving Police Department, Irving Municipal Jail, Race Trac Incorporated, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Ser-National, United Parcel Service, and University of Phoenix.

Students who attended the job fair were surveyed following their attendance. According to survey results, 81 percent said they met with companies they were not previously aware of and 63 percent said they applied for more than one job.

Companies projecting job opportunities for summer 2010 are encouraged to register for next year’s job fair. Exhibit space is free of charge and businesses wanting to reserve space should contact Thelma Cantu, partnerships in education coordinator, at 972-215-5017 or via email to tcantu@irvingisd.net.
