Irving ISD Calendar for December 2017 and January 2018

ISF Alumni Mixer – Thursday, December 7

All Irving ISD graduates are invited to an alumni mixer to help raise money for STEM programs. The Irving Schools Foundation is hosting an Alumni Mixer from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, at Lamberti’s (formerly iFratelli – located at 7701 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75063). The free event includes door prizes and complimentary food and drinks. Donations will be accepted to help fund STEM initiatives in Irving ISD schools. 

Salon Saturday at Ratteree – Saturday, December 9

Get your hair cut for $5 or a pedicure for $10 – among other services – at Salon Saturday this Saturday, December 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Ratteree Career Development Center (2121 S. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75060). Students in Irving ISD’s cosmetology program offer a wide range of hair, nail and skin services to the public at incredibly reasonable prices. Services are performed by students supervised by a licensed instructor in a professional salon setting. Student operators are not allowed to receive payment for services, however, tipping is permitted. For a full list of services, visit www.irvingisd.net/cosmetology. Gold Card Tour – Wednesday, December 13

Irving residents 65 and older are invited to get an inside look at Irving ISD schools and programs through a Gold Card Club Tour to be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, at Farine Elementary School. Attendees will tour the school and meet the leaders and educators who are making a difference in Irving. The meeting will last approximately two hours and include a light breakfast, presentation by school staff and a tour of the campus. Space is limited to the first 30 people. Schools, Offices Closed for Christmas Break – December 18-January 1

Irving ISD schools and offices will be closed for Christmas break, December 18 to January 1. All schools and offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 2.

District Spelling Bees – Thursday, January 4

District-level spelling bees will take place at the Administration Building Board Room on Thursday, January 4. Irving ISD will host three cluster spelling bees that will be open to the public and broadcast live on ISTV via cable (Verizon Fios channel 33 and Time Warner Cable channel 15.5) and online. The schedule for each cluster is as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m. – Nimitz cluster
  • 10:30 a.m. – MacArthur cluster
  • 1 p.m. – Irving cluster

Winners of the district’s spelling bees will advance to the Dallas County competition.

Biomedical Sciences Academy Science Fair – Thursday, January 4

The Biomedical Sciences Academy at Irving High School will host its annual Science Fair Thursday, January 4, at 6 p.m. at the school.
