IISD Trustees honored five 2009 high school graduates for having been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as being National Achievement Scholars or National Hispanic Scholars.
2009 IISD National Achievement Scholars were Paula Ikpatt, MacArthur High School; and Nadia Barksdale, Nimitz High School.
National Hispanic Scholars were Rafael Diaz and Stephanie Fernandez, MacArthur High School; and Amy Villarreal, Jack E. Singley Academy.
Winners in the National Hispanic Scholar and National Achievement Scholar programs are determined by students’ performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT) and further demonstration of academic success in school.
National Achievement Scholar status is also determined by Scholastic Assessment Test scores.
