3 Irving Students Named QuestBridge Finalists

Irving ISD is proud to recognize three students who have been named finalists for the QuestBridge National College Match program.

The QuestBridge National College Match program helps high-performing high school seniors gain admission and full four-year scholarships to the nation’s most selective colleges. College Match Scholarships, which are provided by participating colleges, cover the full cost of tuition, room and board, are loan-free, and require no parental contribution.

More than 15,000 students from across the nation applied to the 2021 QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program and only 26% of applicants were accepted. Among those are Cristian DonJuan, Lilla Fancher and Madelyn Moore, all seniors at Irving High School.

“Being named a Questbridge finalist means having a once in a lifetime opportunity at my fingertips,” says Moore. “I am now one step closer to not only attending my dream school, but also putting all pressing thoughts of financial insufficiency to rest as I am considered for a full-ride scholarship. I am very excited to see where this journey leads me as I complete my final applications.”

“It means a lot of things to me,” adds Fancher. “Although it’s not a measure of my worth or anything, it definitely is something tangible I can look at and remind myself that I am capable of more than I often think.”

If selected, students have the opportunity to match with prestigious universities such as MIT, Stanford, Duke, Notre Dame, Yale and many more. Students will be notified on Match Day, December 1 if they have been awarded the scholarship.

“To be selected as a QuestBridge finalist means a lot to me since I am able to represent the hard work not only I put in but also the sacrifices my family have made to see me succeed,” adds Donjuan.

Recent Irving ISD graduates who matched through QuestBridge include 2021 MacArthur graduate Reem Abbas to Rice University; 2021 Irving graduate Victoria Gillespie to Notre Dame; 2021 MacArthur graduate Serra Marquez to Notre Dame; 2021 Singley graduate Gayda Mohamed to Brown University; 2019 Irving graduate Antonio Soriano to Brown University; 2019 Singley graduate Alexa de la Fuente to Brown University; 2019 MacArthur graduate Yamile Cornejo Carillo to Notre Dame; 2018 Irving graduate Miriam Trigo to Stanford; 2017 MacArthur graduate Obed De La Cruz to Stanford; 2016 Irving graduate Luis Govea Moreno to Stanford; 2016 Singley graduate Erik Vargas-Ayala to the University of Pennsylvania; 2016 Singley graduate Khadijah Thibodeaux to Pomona College.

Good luck on Match Day to Cristian DonJuan, Lilla Fancher and Madelyn Moore.
