CTE Programs Expand, Recognize Students

Shawn Blessing, Career & Technical Education (CTE) director, presented a report to the Board of Trustees that outlined the expansion of IISD CTE programs.

According to Blessing, Irving CTE serves more than 7,500 students in grades 7-12.  New CTE courses, and new Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills addressing technical education, have been approved to begin with the 2010-2011 academic year. The new courses offer exciting and engaging programs of study, all of which will focus on preparing students for regional and national high-growth employment opportunities. Courses also prepare students for postsecondary education, and the “soft skills” necessary for success in a globally competitive workforce. Blessing said new programs include education in high-demand industries such as energy management, environmental protection and logistics.
