IISD Trustees Present Golden Apple Awards

The Irving ISD Board of Trustees presented three Golden Apple Awards March 8 to Irving Bible Church, Gold N’ Carats Jewelry, and Jan Dickson.

Irving Bible Church was recognized for its consistent demonstration of servant leadership. Members of the church have provided backpacks filled with school supplies and gifts during the holidays for students in need, snacks and catered meals for teachers, and provided more than 100 Partner in Education volunteers who serve as lunch buddies and mentors each week for IISD students.

Gold N’ Carats and owner Lucinda Rogers was recognized for more than 20 years of support for IISD teachers. Rogers and her company provide a personally selected piece of jewelry each year for the district Teachers of the Year. At each annual Teacher of the Year ceremony, Rogers also presents a poem, story or verse that demonstrates the value and importance of teaching.

Jan Dickson, retired IISD teacher and active volunteer with Irving Schools Foundation (ISF), was recognized for her service to the district and its teachers. Dickson has been a part of IISD for 46 years. Dickson has served as teacher mentor and has presented to education classes at local universities. In her role with Irving Schools Foundation, Dickson helps present ISF grants to teachers. Peers have said she is upbeat, supportive, encouraging and a bright part of their day, and she has been referred to by administrators as the ultimate professional educator.

Each year, the IISD trustees present Golden Apple Awards to community businesses or organizations and individual partners who have made outstanding contributions to Irving schools. The Golden Apple is a symbol of commitment to Irving’s children and our nation’s future.  Golden Apple Award winners are recognized because they consistently go the extra mile - often at great personal expense in time and resources to enrich and expand educational opportunities for both students and staff.
