Irving ISD middle and high school choirs and orchestras competed at Region 20 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Concert & Sightreading Contests in March.
Orchestra contests were held at Nimitz High School March 4, 5, 11, and 12. De Zavala Middle School varsity orchestra received a sweepstakes trophy for earning first division ratings in the concert and sightreading portion of the contest. MacArthur High School and Nimitz High School varsity and non-varsity orchestras won plaques for receiving first division ratings in sightreading. Austin Middle School , Crockett Middle School , and Travis Middle School varsity orchestras won plaques for first division ratings in the concert portion.
Earning second and third division ratings in the contest were varsity and non-varsity orchestras from Irving High School , Bowie Middle School , Crockett Middle School , Houston Middle School and Lamar Middle School .
Middle School choir contests were March 24-26 at Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy in Dallas . Bowie and Lamar varsity choirs, and Travis non-varsity choir won a sweepstakes trophy for first division ratings in concert and sightreading. Winning a plaque for first division ratings in concert were de Zavala non-varsity and Travis varsity. Travis varsity choir also won a plaque for first division ratings in sightreading.
Earning second and third division ratings at regional UIL choir contest were varsity and non-varsity choirs from Austin and Houston middle schools.
