The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced seven Irving ISD students as Commended in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship program.
Seniors earning Commended status are Jennifer Bachand, MacArthur High School; Arman Baqui, Nimitz High School; Theodore Beyene, MacArthur, Jason Ikpatt, MacArthur; Christopher Lewis, Nimitz; Margaret Stiggleman, Nimitz; and Quintin Zipper, Nimitz.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. They placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered this year’s competition. Students were qualified according to their scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test taken during the junior year of high school.
