Choir students, jazz band students, and marching bands from IISD high schools competed at their respective Region 20 University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions in September and October.
Three students in the MacArthur High School Jazz Band auditioned and were selected to the Region 20 UIL All-Region Jazz Band September 18. Austin James, junior trombone player; Andrew Heller, senior trumpet player; and Raul Ruz-Ballote, sophomore trumpet player, were selected to the band. Austin James was also selected to advance to the Area level to audition for All-State Jazz Band. The 40-member All-Region Jazz Band will perform concerts at 7 p.m. December 3 and 4 at Waxahachie High School.
Choir students from Irving High School and Nimitz High School auditioned for Region 20 UIL Choir at Midlothian High School October 16. Germany Board, junior at Irving High, advanced to the second round of auditions at All-Region Choir competition and won a place in the All-Region Mixed Choir. From Nimitz High School, six students earned membership in the ninth and tenth grade Treble Honor Choir. Students are Darby Adams, Jordan Brewer, Sandra Cantu, Katie Dell, Sarah Lane and Ashley Saldana. All-Region choirs will perform a concert beginning at 7 p.m. November 13 at Grand Prairie High School.
The Irving High and MacArthur Marching Bands received a Division One rating and the Nimitz Band received a Division Two rating at the Region 20 UIL Marching Contest in Duncanville on October 16. Irving High and MacArthur advanced to the UIL Area C Marching Contest October 23 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
