International Trumpeter to Accompany All-City Band

Irving ISD will present an All-City Band concert at 4 p.m. December 4 in the Nimitz High School Auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public. Performances will be presented by the seventh grade band, conducted by Birdville High School Band Director Jolette Wine; eighth grade band, directed by IISD high school directors Brandon Huff, Darrin Duff and Jay Smith; and high school band conducted by Trinity High School Band Director Mario Cassanova.

The High School All-City Band will feature soloist Dr. Leonard Candelaria. Candelaria is internationally recognized as one of America’s distinguished artists and teachers of the trumpet. He served as trumpet professor at University of North Texas for 29 years, and then moved to Birmingham to become professor of trumpet and artist in residence at University of Alabama-Birmingham. He has performed with the symphony orchestras of Dallas and Fort Worth, as a member of big bands led by Tex Beneke and Ray McKinley, and was a member of the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band. Candelaria currently maintains an active national and international schedule of performances and master classes as an Edwards Performing Artist under the sponsorship of the Getzen Company.
