2-Year-Old Boy Shot and Killed by Another Child in Kentucky

Milo Christian Don Brooks | Oct. 29, 2020 - Sept 7, 2023

In a heartbreaking incident on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 9:51 AM, tragedy struck the small community of Corbin, Kentucky. The Whitley County Sheriff's Department received a distress call concerning a child who had been accidentally shot by another child at 75 Martin Road.

Responding to the emergency were the Corbin Police Department and the Corbin Fire Department, who arrived at the scene before the sheriff department personnel.

The victim was identified as 2-year-old Milo Brooks. He was transported by the Corbin Fire Department to Baptist Health - Corbin, where medical professionals pronounced him deceased.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the tragedy unfolded when another child, a 3-year-old, in the home gained access to a firearm, resulting in a single gunshot wound to young Milo's head.

“It’s our belief right now that the gun was on top of a refrigerator, and the child had crawled on a stool and a cabinet, and was able to retrieve the firearm,” said Whitley County Sheriff Bill Elliotte.

Sheriff Bill Elliotte is leading the ongoing investigation, with support from the Corbin Police Department, the Corbin Fire Department, Whitley County EMS, Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley, DCBS personnel, and fellow Whitley County Sheriff deputies.
