CALEA® Appoints Four New Commissioners Including Plano Chief of Police

Plano Chief of Police Ed Drain

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), renowned as the Gold Standard in Public Safety, is delighted to announce the appointment of four distinguished individuals to its Commission. In addition to this, five current CALEA Commissioners have been reappointed, reinforcing CALEA's commitment to promoting professionalism within the field of public safety.

The newly appointed Commissioners are as follows:

  1. Chief Matthew Benson of the Cumberland Police Department in Rhode Island.

  2. Chief Ed Drain of the Plano Police Department in Texas, who has been serving as chief of police since 2020, bringing with him 29 years of invaluable public safety experience.

  3. Chief Estella Patterson of the Raleigh Police Department in North Carolina.

  4. John Lumpkins, Jr., Esq., a member of the Goochland County Board of Supervisors in Virginia.

Chief Ed Drain, in particular, has a distinguished career in public safety, having previously served as the chief of the Amarillo Police Department and with 24 years of service in the United States Army. He is a recipient of numerous awards and decorations, including service as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer. Chief Drain holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Business Administration from Amberton University.

The addition of these Commissioners with their extensive knowledge and experience reaffirms CALEA's dedication to its mission of promoting professionalism within the public safety field.
