Five-Star Rating for Irving ISD

Irving ISD has earned a five-star rating from the Texas State Comptroller’s Office as part of Connecting the Dots: School Spending and Student Progress. A five-star rating reflects the strongest relative academic progress combined with the lowest relative spending.

The report was commissioned by the Texas Legislature in 2009 as a result of HB3 to "develop a method to compare school districts on a level playing field," resulting in a five-star rating system based on student progress in reading and math and district spending. The unique rating system is called the Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST).

Irving ISD is one of only 43 independent school districts or charter schools among 1,237 districts in Texas that received the ranking of five-star district. The FAST rating system uses one to five “stars” to denote the rating. To receive five stars, a district had to have a composite (math and reading) academic progress rating between 80 and 99, and a spending index of “very low.” The IISD rating is a combination of success in combining cost-effective spending with the achievement of measurable student academic progress.
