Ellis has requested that half of the funds be distributed to math and science programs and half to Irving High School, MacArthur High School and Nimitz High School athletics. In order to receive the funds, the IISD Board of Trustees must allocate $25,000 each to elementary and middle school math and science departments, and $50,000 to the athletic department. Ultimately, each elementary and middle school science and math department, and the athletic department, would receive $200,000. Funds would then be used by the respective department directors for discretionary purchases. Also, all funds must be expended during the 2010-2011 school year.
Local businessman and long-time supporter of Irving ISD J. Ralph Ellis has pledged a $100,000 matching-funds grant to IISD academics and athletics programs through the Irving Schools Foundation.
