Dr. Tracy Johnson Poised to Make History as First Female Superintendent of Keller ISD

Dr. Tracy Johnson

In a historic move, Keller Independent School District (KISD) is poised to welcome its first female superintendent, Dr. Tracy Johnson. Currently serving as KISD’s Chief Human Resources Officer since 2019, Dr. Johnson brings over 22 years of experience in public education to her new role.

The decision came at a Special Meeting held on Monday, November 27, where the Board of Trustees voted unanimously, 6-0, naming Dr. Johnson the lone finalist. A mandatory 21-day waiting period, as per state regulations, will precede the official hiring process. Following this period, a Special Meeting is expected to be called by the Board to formally appoint Dr. Johnson as Superintendent and determine her start date, tentatively set for January 2, 2024.

Dr. Charles Randklev, President of the KISD Board of Trustees, expressed confidence in the selection, stating, “Dr. Johnson is the best choice for Keller ISD because she is deeply rooted in our community.”

Dr. Johnson, a Texas Woman’s University alumna with a Master’s Degree and Doctorate from the University of North Texas, started her educational career as an elementary school teacher in Northwest ISD. Her journey includes roles as a third-grade teacher, a gifted and talented educator, and administrative positions in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. She returned to Keller ISD in 2019 as the Chief Human Resources Officer.

“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen as the lone finalist for the KISD Superintendent position,” said Dr. Johnson. “This is profoundly personal for me because I truly believe we have the best students, parents, employees, and community.”

Dr. Johnson's husband, Harold Johnson, recently retired from Keller ISD after a significant tenure. The Superintendent search process was facilitated by the law firm Leasor Crass, PC.

The transition follows the announcement of Dr. Rick Westfall's retirement in June, prompting the extensive search that culminated in Dr. Johnson's selection. John Allison has been serving as KISD’s Interim Superintendent for the past six months.
