Irving ISD High School student councils cooperated to conduct Homeless for a Night, a district-wide community service project for students to take action on the homeless problem within the IISD student population.
Participating students spent the night at the Irving Schools Stadium from 10 p.m. December 3 to 6 a.m. December 4 to discuss, think and learn about homelessness. Student council members acknowledged that although one night outside can in no way truly simulate homelessness, this awareness-raising activity helped to promote advocacy, raise protest, and create education. In addition, the event raised approximately $1,300 for IISD Project PASS, and collected clothing to directly benefit homeless students in Irving ISD and those served by Irving Cares.
