Carrollton Fire Rescue (CFR) received the prestigious title of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Provider of the Year from Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano during the Quarterly EMS Luncheon on November 28.
The annual recognition is awarded by Texas Health administrators, physicians, and nurses to the EMS provider that made the most significant impact on a patient's life. This year, CFR stood out for its exemplary response to a 911 call in September involving a 42-year-old woman experiencing chest pains and collapsing at her workplace.
Quickly identifying the symptoms of a heart attack, CFR members promptly notified hospital staff and transported the patient to the emergency room. The hospital's cardiac catheterization lab team, having received advanced notice from CFR, successfully treated the patient, ultimately saving her life.
Carrollton Fire Chief Michael Thomson expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing CFR's commitment to providing top-notch patient care in emergency situations. He credited the team's rigorous training and award-winning patient care for achieving their primary goal of increasing the chances of survival.
The award serves to strengthen the collaboration between hospital clinicians and first responders, ensuring the continued delivery of excellent care. CFR's advanced training and high-quality pre-hospital care were highlighted as key factors in earning this distinction.
Due to the trust placed in Carrollton's first responders, hospital clinicians are better prepared to treat serious illnesses and injuries upon patients' arrival. Texas Health Plano, serving communities such as Carrollton, Addison, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and Richardson, sees CFR responding to over 40 percent of the emergency calls brought to the hospital.
The demand on first responders has risen in recent years, with CFR witnessing an increase from approximately 130 to over 200 patients per month since 2020. Despite the growing demand, CFR's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality care contributed significantly to Texas Health's decision to honor them as the 2023 EMS Provider of the Year.
