In a commendable achievement, the Colleyville Police Department was honored with the "Accredited Law Enforcement Agency" award by the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Law Enforcement Accreditation Program on December 5, 2023. This recognition underscores the department's commitment to upholding over 170 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement, established by Texas Law Enforcement professionals since the program's initiation in 2006.
Initially accredited in 2015, the Colleyville Police Department has maintained its accreditation through successful onsite inspections every four years, with the recent acknowledgment marking the third consecutive favorable evaluation. This voluntary accreditation process necessitated an extensive internal review of the department's policies, procedures, facilities, and overall operations.
To achieve "Accredited Law Enforcement Agency" status, the department meticulously prepared proofs of compliance for each of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Business Practices. Following the internal review, an external audit was conducted by trained Police Chiefs from different regions in the state. The results were then submitted to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Accreditation Committee for final analysis and the subsequent decision to award the coveted "Accredited" status.
Colleyville now stands among the elite with only 122 TPCA Accredited agencies in the state and the distinct honor of being one of only 5 agencies nationwide accredited by both TPCA and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This accomplishment places Colleyville at the forefront of law enforcement standards both within Texas and on a national level.
Police Chief Michael C. Miller expressed his pride, stating, "Our community expects exceptional services from its police department, and that is why we voluntarily hold ourselves to the highest standards, not only in the state of Texas, but also nationally. Holding both state and national accreditation shows that Colleyville is a leader in elite company within our industry, and we take our job of delivering the highest quality services to our citizens very seriously."
The presentation of the award took place at the Colleyville City Council meeting on December 5, 2023. The department will also be recognized at the Texas Police Chiefs Association annual conference in April.
