Kaitlyn Kontak, a Junior at Irving HS, won the Irving – Las Colinas Rotary Club Four Way Speech Contest on March 3, 2011. Luis Nambo came in second and Paige Barnes placed third. Luis and Paige are also Irving HS students. Each student presented their speech before the Rotary Membership, and Kaitlyn will go on to compete at the next level on March 26th.
The Four Way Speech Contest is a tradition in Rotary Clubs around the world, and it is based on the practical yardstick used by Rotarians in their business, community, and personal affairs. The Four Way Test of the things Rotarians think, say, or do is:
1 – Is it the TRUTH?
2 – Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3 – Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4 – Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
The speech contest is for local high school students who must prepare a 5-7 minute speech based on the Four Way Test. Kaitlyn spoke about her unique situation of parents giving up their child for adoption by grandparents. Congratulations to Kaitlyn!
