Firefighter Injured in Arlington Apartment Shooting, Suspect Detained

Brady Weaver

On Friday, March 22nd, at around 12:43 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to a concerning situation at an apartment complex located in the 400 block of Bardin Greene Drive. The response was prompted by a call from a resident reporting sounds of distressed children emanating from a neighboring apartment, pleading for their mother to wake up.

Upon arrival, officers, along with personnel from the Arlington Fire Department and AMR, approached the apartment in question. Despite repeated attempts to make contact by knocking and announcing their presence for over five minutes, there was no response from inside the apartment, except for the continuing cries of the children.

Fearing for the safety of those inside, responders decided to forcibly enter the apartment. However, their efforts were met with an unexpected and alarming development - a single gunshot was discharged from within the apartment, injuring one of the firefighters stationed at the door.

In the immediate aftermath, all personnel retreated to safety, and the injured firefighter, identified as Brady Weaver by the Arlington Fire Department, was transported to a nearby hospital. Medical staff has reported that Weaver is currently in stable condition and alert.

Following the incident, authorities successfully managed to secure the situation, with a man, woman, and two children exiting the apartment as instructed. The man, suspected to be the shooter, has been detained for questioning by detectives. The Arlington Police and Fire Departments have appealed to the community to keep Weaver in their thoughts and prayers for his speedy recovery.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities will work in conjunction with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office to determine any potential criminal charges related to the incident. At present, there have been no further reports of injuries, and the investigation remains ongoing.
