At approximately 12:59 pm on April 29, 2024, a patrol officer from The Colony Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle lacking license plates. The driver attempted to evade the officer, ultimately abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Due to the suspect's proximity to Morningside Elementary School, a patrol Sergeant contacted the school, prompting a precautionary lockdown.
Multiple officers from The Colony PD conducted a search of the area and successfully located the suspect on Gates Drive. Meanwhile, The Colony Fire Department responded to a medical call at Morningside Elementary, unrelated to the pursuit.
After the suspect was apprehended and the area secured, Morningside Elementary was lifted from lockdown status, with no further threat to the public reported.
