23-Year-Old Found Guilty of Capital Murder in DeSoto Home Invasion Case

In a verdict, 23-year-old Jabari Johnson, also known as Fat Jay, has been found guilty of capital murder in relation to a harrowing home invasion that resulted in the death of Terrence Demus.

Details: Johnson, along with his accomplice Mikeal Jackson, conspired to burglarize Demus' apartment under the pretense of a marijuana transaction. The prosecution revealed that Johnson had deceived Demus about the purchase of 125 pounds of marijuana, setting the stage for the deadly plot.

On the night of January 22nd, 2022, armed with detailed information about Demus' whereabouts and residence, Johnson and Jackson initiated the home invasion. Despite prior surveillance indicating someone was in the apartment, they proceeded with their plan. The intrusion turned violent, with over 31 shots fired from multiple handguns, resulting in Demus' tragic death from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Following the heinous act, Johnson attempted to establish an alibi and maintained contact with Jackson until the latter's eventual arrest on January 28, 2022.

The investigation, led by the DeSoto Police Department, culminated in the arrest of seven individuals implicated in the crime. Two of those charged alongside Johnson have already been convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life without parole. The remaining five have pleaded guilty to murder charges.

Verdict: Jabari Johnson has been found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

This outcome marks a closure in the pursuit of justice for Terrence Demus and his loved ones, shedding light on the consequences of such egregious acts.
