Plano Police Officers Apprehend Armed Suspect After Intense Pursuit

Raul Arias

In the early hours of May 10th, 2024, Plano Police Officers Duncan and Hamilton responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from the Dallas area. What began as a routine traffic stop swiftly escalated into a high-speed pursuit when the driver, identified as Raul Arias, 36, refused to comply and fled the scene.

Under the supervision of Sgt. Thompkins, the pursuit stretched over several miles until Arias' vehicle came to a halt at the intersection of Creekview Dr. and Hwy 380 in Princeton, TX. Arias then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot, brandishing a firearm and pointing it at the pursuing officers.

In a display of remarkable bravery, Officers Duncan and Hamilton intervened, causing Arias to lose his grip on the weapon. The officers apprehended Arias with the assistance of several nearby agencies.

Subsequent investigation uncovered Arias' intention to provoke law enforcement into using lethal force against him. It was also revealed that Arias had previous convictions, rendering him ineligible to possess a firearm.

Thanks to the quick thinking and courageous actions of Officers Duncan and Hamilton, no harm came to any law enforcement personnel during the encounter. Their valorous response led to the arrest of a dangerous individual who posed a significant threat to both officers and the community.

The Plano Police Department commends Officers Duncan, Hamilton, Faiz, and Seed for their unwavering professionalism and commitment to public safety. Gratitude is also extended to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, McKinney, Princeton, Farmersville, and Melissa Police Departments for their invaluable assistance during the incident.
