The DestinationImagiNation Team
Seven juniors from Singley Academy won an Outstanding rating at the State DestinationImagiNation Tournament at Texas Tech University, and will advance to the Global Destination Imagination Tournament at University of Tennessee May 25-28.

Caren Gonzalez, Analee Gonzalez, Ann Naisoke, Adrianna Portillo, Gi Ju Lim, Patricia Nganga, and Natalie Burns worked for the past several months on Project Outreach, a challenge designed to get students involved in community service. The team opted to focus on underprivileged children who have lost their hair due to cancer or alopecia. After finding that quality wigs for children can run into the hundreds, and even thousands of dollars, the team decided to raise not only awareness, but hair for this issue.

On March 13, the team worked with Salon at the Ranch, asking patrons to cut off 10 or more inches of their hair to donate to the Locks of Love organization. By the end of the day, a total of 238 inches of hair were cut, bagged, and sent to Locks of Love. At the state tournament, the team showcased their efforts with a creative interpretation based on the story of Rapunzel, where the character portrayed by Ann Anosikecut off 10 inches of Rapunzel’s hair, portrayed by Gi Ju Lim.
