Dallas County Declares Disaster Following Severe Storms

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins declared a disaster on Tuesday due to severe storm systems that caused widespread damage throughout North Texas over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Currently, 375,000 Oncor customers are without power across North Texas, including over 100,000 in Irving. Dallas County officials urge residents to be patient as the power outage is expected to last multiple days due to the storm's severity.

Residents without power are advised to seek cooler locations and follow Oncor for the latest updates on power restoration. Additionally, residents are encouraged to check on their loved ones, especially elderly family members or neighbors who may have been affected.

Authorities caution against unnecessary driving while crews work to clear downed power lines, trees, and debris from roadways. If driving is necessary, residents should maintain a safe distance from workers. For those using generators, officials emphasize that generators must be used outdoors in open-air environments and not indoors or in garages to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Additional storms are forecast through the week. For the latest weather updates visit the National Weather Service - Fort Worth/Dallas.
