Man Convicted of Strangling Girlfriend, Receives 15-Year Prison Term for Family Violence

Fabian Deleon

The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced that Fabian Deleon, 27, was found guilty of Impeding Breath of a Family Member by a jury and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On February 28, 2023, while on parole for another felony, Deleon strangled and beat his girlfriend in the presence of her children. He fled to a nearby park where he was arrested by White Settlement Police.

During the punishment phase, the jury learned that Deleon is a documented member of the SUR13 prison gang, a group that pays tribute to the Mexican Mafia while in U.S. prisons.

Despite initial reluctance, the survivor testified at trial about the abuse. After the verdict, she encouraged others to "speak up about your abuse, and don't let it go unnoticed."

The Intimate Partner Violence Unit of the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office prosecuted the case.
